The Story of Nek

In the colony, there is little space for weakness, and even less for one’s own opinion. Here violence and survival get in your blood faster than a pickaxe against magic ore. Friendships clash with propaganda, and in many cases promotion comes with the cost of a moral downfall. You’ll experience a story about loyalty, broken promises, and a battle to preserve your own identity in this world, a world which aims to take it away from everyone. One question comes up over and over again: In a place that destroys all, is it even possible to save yourself?

World

Once again, discover the brutal reality of the Valley of Mines – a world where everyone cares about their own interests, and one wrong step can mark your downfall. We put a lot of effort into not making this a cliché. In “The Story of Nek”, you will have the opportunity to experience the penal colony like never seen before. Shady interests, vengeful people, and constant tension are only the tip of the iceberg.

When we decided to face the task of reimagining the world of “Gothic 1”, we set out to recreate the sense of danger and the need for constant caution that accompanied us while playing the original game. We care about keeping the harmony between the good old colony and simultaneously expanding it with new ideas, which increases the opportunity for a well-written story.

Story

For many years after the creation of the Barrier, the Old Camp has been seen as the strongest of the camps. Its main power were the Guards, the armed hand of the Ore Barons, people who are fanatically loyal to the Camp’s doctrine. Together, they form a strength unmatched by no one in the colony… But the human’s wicked nature makes some people question the current order. Divisions begin to emerge, boundaries are crossed, and—as always—it is the weakest who pay the price for the others' ambitions.

“The story of Nek” is based around human drama, the attempt to live under the oppressive regime of the Old Camp, and loyalty overcoming divisions. Its protagonist is a torn person, who struggles between keeping autonomy and becoming another small cog in the Gomeze's machine.

During your adventure, you will be forced to make dangerous decisions to achieve your goals. No matter what you choose, you must remember – everyone must be ready to pay a hefty price for going out of line.

Music

The primary goal of the soundtrack is to invoke nostalgic feelings and highlight the unique atmosphere of the penal colony. In “The Story of Nek”, there will be new pieces as well as those already well-known by “Gothic” fans. We want to preserve the spirit of the original, while adding a fresh feeling to the music, which will surely enrich the experience.
